Caleb and Cody Martin grew up in the tiny town of Cooleemee, N.C., population 960, their home a single-wide trailer with dingy white metal siding and brown trim. It was no larger than 300 square feet, but that was big enough to house the Martin twins, older brother Raheem and their mother, Jenny Bennett.
The trailer, which sat atop a foundation of gray blocks, was infested by insects. When the boys opened the sugar jar to make Kool-Aid, a host of ants would be burrowing through the white grains. When they woke up in the morning, roaches would scatter.
