Neil Harper’s résumé is so strong you kind of wonder what he’s doing at Nevada.
The 50-year-old was a seven-time All-American at LSU in the 1980s.
He swam for Great Britain in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.
He was the head coach of a Big Ten school (Ohio State) and an ACC school (Florida State).
He was a three-time ACC coach of the year who has produced 168 All-Americans and won more than 78 percent of his meets.
He coached on the Olympic teams for South Africa and Swaziland.
Yet, somehow he’s landed at Nevada, a mixture of good fortune and good foresight delivering one of the nation’s best swimming coaches to Reno to take over perhaps the school’s top athletic program.
