LAS VEGAS – One after another, Caleb Martin’s warm-up shots rimmed out.
Nevada’s dead-eye shooter couldn’t sink a shot before the Wolf Pack’s game against Southern Illinois on Friday night in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, which marked Martin's first game at the Orleans Arena.
“Very poorly,” Martin said of his pre-game shooting. “I was missing a lot of stuff and thinking, ‘Man, this rim is hard.’ It was rimming in and out and I thought, ‘I’m not going to make a shot today.’”
Thankfully for the Wolf Pack, he was wrong. Coming off the bench for the third straight game, it was Martin who sparked Nevada to a 25-2 run midway through the first half that enabled the Wolf Pack to coast to an 86-64 win over Southern Illinois before about 250 fans, most of them supporting Nevada.
