Anybody who has picked up a golf club and tried to get the 1.68-inch diameter ball into a 4.25-inch hole sitting 400-plus yards away in four strokes or less understands it can be a maddening game.
Nevada sophomore Kaitlin Collom certainly experienced some of that frustration as she grew up playing the game but the accolades far surpassed the acrimony. Playing high school golf in Oregon, she was a four-time first-team all-state selection who won bookmarked her prep career with individual state titles during her freshman and senior seasons.
When she began her college career last year, she started eight of Nevada’s 10 events, was third on the team in scoring average and notched her first college top 10 with an eighth-place finish in Sacramento.
