On Saturday, Nevada will travel to play Cal in a renewal of a football rivalry that dates to the 19th century.
One hundred years ago — Oct. 8, 1921, was the exact date — Nevada did the same thing, playing a road game at Cal. The Wolf Pack (actually the Wolves, if we’re getting technical) got thumped, 51-6.
Pretty bad loss, right? Well, maybe not as bad as it first appears.
Cal in the 1920s was pretty much like Alabama today, only more so. Then add Clemson. And throw in Ohio State and Oklahoma, too. That was Cal in the early '20s.
