Byerson Cockrell looked this way. He looked that way. Everywhere he looked, he saw youth.
In the second half of Nebraska's 37-29 Foster Farms Bowl pick-me-up victory against UCLA on Saturday, you could often count seven Husker defenders on the field on a given play who were sophomores or younger.
Antonio Reed? A true freshman who had barely played a defensive snap all year. Aaron Williams? A true freshman starting his first game as a nickel back. Dedrick Young? A freshman who played more snaps this season than any other Husker linebacker. Freedom Akinmoladun? Another freshman.
"That's probably the craziest part, just knowing that you have freshmen out there that literally haven't played all year," said Cockrell, a senior safety.
