Walton had a strong final-day push to move up four spots and notch a first-team All-America finish at seventh in the decathlon Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Walton finished with 7,813 points -- the best point total for a Husker decathlete at the outdoor championships -- to finish just over 50 points back of fifth. He had top-eight finishes in four of the final five events, including second in the javelin.
"The score wasn't what I wanted, but I'm absolutely thrilled," Walton said. "I came here to be top eight and I finished top eight, so I couldn't be happier.
