Volleyball: Stivrins leads 2016 recruiting class

Lauren Stivrins, a top-10 national recruit with Nebraska ties, headlines the 2016 recruiting class announced by Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook on Wednesday.

Stivrins is a 6-foot-4 middle blocker from Scottsdale, Arizona, and is the No. 9 ranked player in the class, according to PrepVolleyball.com. A former club national champion, Stivrins possesses a powerful arm and athleticism that earned her the reputation as one of the nation’s elite middle blocker recruits, Cook said.

Her father, Alex, was on Lincoln East’s 1978 state basketball team, before a college and pro career. Stivrins still has family in Lincoln.

The others in the three-player class are setter Hunter Atherton from Prospect, Ohio and outside hitter Alex Ratzlaff from Hillsboro, Kansas.
