One of the many things Nebraska coach John Cook credits for helping the Huskers win the national championship this season was a mentoring program with former Huskers.
Last summer, each player connected with two former Huskers, several of whom had played on one of the program's previous three national championship teams. Some of the conversations lasted 1½ hours. Last week, some mentors sent emails or texts to the players they had worked with.
“These young women got to be exposed to the former national champions here — the Jordan Larsons, the Dani Busbooms. We pulled them all out, and it was awesome stuff,” Cook said.
