This week the Nebraska women’s basketball team showed up on the ESPN.com projections of the teams that could make the NCAA Tournament, but is that even worth mentioning?
The Huskers still have nine regular-season games to play, and at least one more in the Big Ten Conference Tournament, before the NCAA Tournament teams will be picked. Last season the Huskers had an eight-game losing streak near the end of the season. With a losing streak even half of that length this year, the Huskers would probably be out of the NCAA conversation.
But here’s why the ESPN projection is worth mentioning: For the Huskers at any point this season to be mentioned as a team capable of making the tournament is a major improvement from last season, when they had a 7-22 record and tied for 11th place in the Big Ten.
