Steven M. Sipple: With two-a-days banned, Ruud praises NCAA's 'smarter' preseason rules

Former Nebraska linebacker great Barrett Ruud recalled an era of football that was, well, a bit ridiculous in at least one regard.

“When I was a freshman in 2001, I had the Shrine Bowl, which had three-a-day practices from the middle of July until about four days before we started preseason camp (at Nebraska)," Ruud said. "Then, the freshmen reported about eight days earlier (than the rest of the team). So we had like eight days of two- or three-a-days, just the freshmen.”

“Then we had 14 more days of two-a-days in camp,” the Lincoln Southeast graduate said.
