If the Nebraska football program's recent success — three wins in the last four games — were solely about excellent offensive output, the statistic handed to me Saturday by a school official would hardly get my attention.
The stat: In five games this season against Big Ten West Division opponents, Nebraska has averaged 569.4 yards of total offense. Even though the Huskers are only 2-3 in those contests, the stat raises eyebrows in part because true freshman quarterback Adrian Martinez already is excellent and likely will continue to improve under the tutelage of head coach Scott Frost and quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco.
