Steven M. Sipple: Nothing pretend about Weber's steady rise in Husker program

Nebraska linebacker Chris Weber occasionally hears Bob Diaco use the concept "pretend student-athletes."

Those athletes falter in classes and don't always go full-bore in the Husker football complex.

Weber isn't one of those guys. Far from it.

A senior starting inside linebacker, Weber's grade-point average is higher than 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. He's never dipped below an A-minus.

Oh, he's been close.

"I've done this for four years, I want to keep the streak going," he said Wednesday. "You're like, 'I've been here for four years and haven't gotten a B, and now you're going to do it in the fifth year when you have all the time in the world to study?
