One way to gain insight into a new coach’s style is to look back at his playing career.
First-year Nebraska secondary coach Travis Fisher played cornerback for eight seasons in the NFL and was a full-time starter for essentially six of them.
“I remember one time he got his teeth knocked back in a game and had to get braces for support — and still played the next week,” said former Nebraska corner great DeJuan Groce, who played three seasons (2003-05) with Fisher on the St. Louis Rams.
He also expects competitiveness — unyielding competitiveness. In that regard, he makes clear his defensive backs will have to earn their way onto the field, the way he did all those years in the NFL.
