Steven M. Sipple: Culture issues in Riley's program? Check back in November

Covering Nebraska football can be much like covering politics.

That was glaringly apparent during the early 2000s, when Steve Pederson put wheels in motion to fire Frank Solich. Throughout much of the 2003 season, the pro-Solich faction and pro-Pederson folks sparred like Republicans and Democrats. What fun.

No, not really.

Nowadays, it's difficult to imagine Nebraska football without factions in the fan base — that is, unless the Huskers go 60-3, as was the case from 1993-97.

I heard from various factions Saturday as news broke that four-star Nebraska freshman receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr. was cited Friday for marijuana possession.
