Steven M. Sipple: Crawford's rise in ring aided by Husker football strength coach

Terence "Bud" Crawford felt right at home, although a boxing ring was nowhere in sight.

Last November, as Nebraska prepared to play Maryland at Memorial Stadium, the junior welterweight world champion bounced and swayed to thumping music in the Husker football weight room.

As Jamie Belt, an assistant Nebraska football strength and conditioning coach, put players through their elaborate warmup routine 70 minutes before kickoff, Crawford watched intently. He was excited, intense, juiced, as if he were about to enter a ring.

"As soon as we got done warming up and sent everybody out (to the field), I walked over and shook Terence's hand," Belt said last week.
