Starting job went down to the wire, but Sweet had great debut

A decision on who would be the starting right-side hitter for the Nebraska volleyball team — it came down to freshmen Jazz Sweet and Anezka Szabo — wasn’t made until about two hours before the first match of the season.

Nebraska coach John Cook was getting in a workout before the match, and just settled on Sweet.

For at least one week, it showed to be a very good decision. Sweet led the Huskers with 14 kills and a team-best .375 hitting percentage against Oregon in the first match of the season. Her 14 kills matched Kadie Rolfzen for the most by a Husker true freshman in a college debut since Sarah Pavan’s 16 in 2004.
