Shavon Shields became the first Nebraska men's basketball player to be named a two-time COSIDA Academic All-America first-team selection.
The Husker senior, who carries a 3.72 GPA in biological sciences, joins Beau Reid, who was a third-team Academic All-American in 1989 and 1991, as NU's only two-time honorees. Shields is Nebraska’s 321st Academic All-American in all sports, a total that leads the nation.
Wednesday's honor was the second major off-court one for Shields, as he was named to the NABC Allstate Good Works Team last month, recognizing his work in the community. Shields, from Olathe, Kansas, is enjoying the best season of his career.
