Shields Looks Back on Unique Season

When basketball was put on pause, former Husker Shavon Shields was finishing a morning shootaround in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Shields, who was in his second season playing for Baskonia, was in Tel Aviv for a Euroleague game when the team received word that its game was canceled because of COVID-19.

Shields, who enjoyed a decorated career at Nebraska from 2013 to 2016, was aware of the coronavirus as it started to spread around Europe.

“It was around in February, and you heard about it being in certain places,” Shields said. “Milan played a couple of games behind closed doors because Italy was a hotspot.
