Helu had been placed on the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list because of offseason hip surgery. It appears the Raiders decided that they didn’t want him on the 90 man roster for any reason and instead cut him loose.
According to PFT, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio announced Helu was being removed from the roster in order to make way for defensive tackle Derrick Lott. This was a relatively short and unproductive stay with the Raiders for Roy Helu.
The former Nebraska star had signed with the Raiders in March of last year but was injured during training camp.
