Mike Riley was pulled out of a staff meeting at 11:03 on Tuesday morning, learning for the first time of an allegation that by then was already beginning to take hold as the day's focal story in the state of Nebraska.
What he learned, about the exact same time the rest of a fan base was processing the same information, was that there was an investigation into a sexual assault that allegedly occurred at a party in the early hours Sunday at a residence shared by Husker players Tommy Armstrong Jr., Jordan Westerkamp and Trey Foster.
No suspect has been named in the case and Riley did not know enough about it to feel comfortable saying if he felt the alleged suspect, which a Lincoln Police Department official said had been contacted by investigators, was someone outside the Husker football program.
