Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Mick Stoltenberg played three snaps in Nebraska’s 30-28 loss to Northwestern – four, if you count his participation on one extra-point play.
Stoltenberg and Greg McMullen entered the game at the same time to replace Vince Valentine and Maliek Collins to give Nebraska’s starting interior duo a breather.
It’s the sixth time in eight games the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Stoltenberg has rotated in at defensive tackle, a position where injures to Kevin Williams and Kevin Maurice, as well as to regular starter Valentine, have tested Nebraska’s depth.
“Coach (Hank) Hughes and (Mark) Banker say all the time that if someone goes down, it’s your turn to step up,” Stoltenberg said “You’re going to be expected to do our job regardless of how much experience you have or anything like that.
