Red Report: A physical spring; tackling 'to and through'; transfer Williams packs on pounds

About 30 minutes into Nebraska’s fifth spring practice on Tuesday morning, the Huskers lined up 11-on-11 and ran a handful of live plays.

Aside from the quarterbacks sporting green jerseys, it was full-go. Mikale Wilbon stuck his nose in between the tackles and Wyatt Mazour got thumped after a good gain up the middle.

The physicality was eye-opening, in part because it was the first full-speed action reporters have seen this spring, but also because more and more teams around the country are dialing back contact during spring ball.

“We’d always done things a certain way with the Oregon model that we took down to UCF,” head coach Scott Frost said, alluding to a lighter hitting and tackling load.
