It wasn’t pretty. But Nebraska’s Pinstripe Bowl performance was something far more important:
PROGRESS.
A winning record for the first time since 2016. A bowl victory for the first time since 2015. Not major accomplishments by themselves, but rather for the futility that can now be relegated to the dumpster of history.
It’s hard to read a lot into this game due to the poor weather conditions; it’s clear that the sloppy field surface affected both teams almost as much as all of the portal departures. Not all of the portal departures were a negative; I dare say that true freshman Vincent Shavers gave Nebraska more in Yankee Stadium than the Mikai Gbayor/Stephon Thompson combo would have.
