Three Oregon State pitchers combined to strike out 17 Nebraska batters, and top Major League Baseball Draft prospect Adley Rutschman blasted a three-run home run to help left the No. 7-ranked Beavers past Nebraska 8-2 Friday in the first game of a doubleheader in Surprise, Arizona.
In a game originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, first pitch was moved back two hours because of rain. The game was then delayed for 44 minutes in the middle of the sixth inning as another rain shower moved through.
Oregon State (5-0) scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth to break on top, then went up 5-0 in the fifth when Rutschman, the OSU catcher who will likely be a top-5 pick in June's MLB Draft, blasted a 1-1 offering from Connor Curry over the 379-foot sign in left-center.
