Nebraska senior Luis Alvarado was named a preseason third-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Monday. He was named to the team as a utility player.
Alvarado, who elected to return for his senior season after he was drafted in the 13th round by the Seattle Mariners, will serve as the Huskers' ace pitcher this season after earning 10 saves in 16 relief appearances last year. He compiled a 1.72 earned-run average in 15.2 innings.
At the plate, Alvarado hit .283 with 64 hits, 39 runs scored, 12 doubles and 25 RBIs.
