Andrew White heard the extra roar from the Pinnacle Bank Arena crowd after the Nebraska men’s basketball team had taken the court a couple of minutes before Saturday’s game against Penn State.
He knew it was for Shavon Shields, who, dressed in street clothes, walked to the bench and took a seat next to redshirting guard Anton Gill.
“I think it was good for the crowd and the fans to embrace him being back,” said White, a junior guard, “just because that fall, we’ve all seen it. It could’ve ended a lot worse than it did.”
That fall occurred a week ago, on the same court, knocked Shields unconscious and sent him to the emergency room with a concussion and neck strain.
