Nebraska freshman accomplishes four-minute mile

George Kusche had a historic race on Saturday, becoming the first Nebraska track athlete to run a four-minute mile on a standard 200-meter track.

The redshirt freshman from South Africa ran 3:59.61 on Saturday at the Devaney Sports Center, winning the event at the Frank Sevigne in a meet and school record.

Kusche needed a fast final lap, and was pushed along by needing a strong finish to also win the race. Kieran Wood from Missouri finished second in 3:59.64.
