Nebraska and Tennessee have clashed twice before. The first time was a 42-17 rout as the No. 2 Cornhuskers dominated a No. 3 Peyton Manning-led squad in the 1998 Orange Bowl that also featured former NFL standout Jamal Lewis at running back.
The impressive performance helped Nebraska earn a share of the 1997 National Championship as the Coaches Poll gave ranked the Huskers as the No. 1 team in the country over Michigan.
The second encounter pitted the No. 3 Huskers versus the No. 5 Volunteers in the 2000 Fiesta Bowl which featured a much more closely-contested 31-21 battle.
