Nebraska County Countdown 40: Pierce County

Welcome to the rolling hills of northeast Nebraska. The county was formed in 1859 and named after President Franklin Pierce. The county seat is Pierce (convenient, huh?) and population (2010) is 7,266.

In addition to the city of Pierce, you will also find Osmond, Plainview, Hadar, McLean, and Foster. If you include unincorporated “communities” then Breslau and Wee Town also need to be included. Regretfully, one can no longer clog their arteries on ginormous burgers and heaping baskets of fries as Wee Town has been closed for several years. I do, however, recommend visiting Jerry’s Hilltop near the junction of Highways 81 and 20, especially on Prime Rib night (Thursday) or during their Oktoberfest buffet.
