It was about as rough of a start to a game as you could think of for Nebraska. In a way though, this game was a microcosm of their postseason. Just when someone might be ready to lose faith in them, they battle back with excellent pitching and timely hits, especially from that one dude named Swansen.
The notoriously slow starting Huskers went very quietly in the first, getting the Purple Eagles pitcher making only his 3rd start of the season out of the inning on only 6 pitches. They followed that up with Mason McConnaughey struggling in the bottom of the inning, hitting a batter, then giving up a sharp single, and then a home run to Niagara’s record setting hitter, Eric Rataczak.
