NCAA volleyball: West Coast bias? Not this Final Four

OMAHA — Pop quiz, hot shots.

When's the last time the NCAA Final Four featured zero volleyball teams with a porch-side view of the Pacific Ocean?

Answer: Never.

At least not until this year. With Nebraska, Texas, Minnesota and Kansas all advancing to Thursday's national semifinals at CenturyLink Center Omaha, the Final Four will not feature at least one school from the West Coast or Hawaii since the tournament's inception in 1981.

All told, teams from the West Coast or Hawaii have won 22 of 33 national championships. But the balance of power has shifted, with the Big Ten and Big 12 accounting for 10 of the last 15 titles.
