Kansas was in a bind, and a historic volleyball season was near its end.
After winning the first two sets against No. 2 USC, the Jayhawks found themselves trailing 13-9 in the decisive fifth set of the San Diego Regional final late Saturday.
"Hey, this is not good," Kansas coach Ray Bechard was thinking.
He told his team during a timeout, "The first thing we're going to do is side out and make it manageable at 13-10."
Kansas did just that. Then it was 13-11, 13-12, 13-13. …
"Next thing you know, holy cow, here we are," Bechard said Tuesday.
