OMAHA — Three weeks ago, John Cook said this year’s Nebraska volleyball team had played some of the highest-level volleyball in his 16 years as head coach, and now we know he wasn’t just saying so, hoping the Huskers would believe it.
That gives some perspective to how well Nebraska has played the past two months, a stretch that has taken the Huskers all the way to Saturday’s national championship match against Texas at CenturyLink Center Omaha.
Cook’s first team, in 2000, won the national championship with a 34-0 record. In the 2005 and ’06 seasons, the Huskers had a combined 66-3 record, with a national runner-up finish in ’05 and the NCAA title in 2006.
