Washington State football’s bid for an undefeated regular season officially ended at 11:07 p.m. Pacific time Friday night when the No. 8 Cougars lost, 37-3, at Cal.
After the blowout defeat at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, WSU president Kirk Schulz and athletic director Bill Moos had a conversation in which they lamented the loss and looked forward toward beating Colorado at home the next weekend.
As that conversation happened, though, Moos had either already signed or was within minutes of signing a five-year, $5.5 million agreement to leave WSU and take over Nebraska athletic department.
The job didn’t come up.
