Men's basketball: Hammons too much for Huskers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – A.J. Hammons faced the basket from the right wing and let loose a shot.

It clanked off the rim.

“See,” a Purdue fan in the upper sections of Mackey Arena said, “he can’t dunk from 18 feet.”

Alas, somebody found something wrong with Hammons’ game on Saturday, however sarcastic the comment.

There wasn’t much to nit-pick.

Hammons, a 7-foot senior, scored a career-high 32 points on 14-of-17 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds and may warrant replacing the rims on Gene Keady Court after a series of thundering dunks in No. 21 Purdue’s 89-74 victory over the Nebraska men’s basketball team.
