Nebraska’s freshman quarterback was named the co-Freshman of the Week in the Big Ten for his performance in the Cornhuskers’ 53-28 win Saturday over Minnesota at Memorial Stadium.
Martinez, a Fresno, California native, finished Nebraska’s first win of the season with 401 total yards of offense and his most efficient passing outing of the season.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder completed 25-of-29 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns and added 125 rushing yards and another score as NU rolled up 649 total yards of offense and scored on eight of its 14 possessions.
Martinez twice completed 11 straight passes, including a game-opening stretch that helped the Huskers to a 21-0 lead.
