Nebraska junior thrower Burger Lambrechts Jr. was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday after a vote by the league's head coaches. He is the first-ever Nebraska men's track and field athlete to win a Big Ten Athlete of the Year award.
Lambrechts was the fifth-place finisher in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend and was a USTFCCCA first-team All-American, throwing 65-0 3/4 (19.83m). It was the best finish by a Husker male in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2004.
