Know the Foe: A closer look at Minnesota

By Brian Rosenthal / Huskers.com

So, exactly how good is Minnesota’s football team?

While some will point to the combined 20-34 record of the six FBS opponents the Gophers have beaten, or the fact they’ve yet to play a ranked team, know that Minnesota took Penn State, now ranked No. 10 in the College Football Playoffs poll, to overtime, on the road.

If Minnesota (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten Conference) is good enough to do that, it’s certainly good enough to tussle with No. 19 Nebraska (7-2, 4-2) in Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. game at Memorial Stadium.

Add in the fact Minnesota can win the Big Ten West Division by winning its remaining three games, and that the Gophers won their last visit to Lincoln, and it makes for a hungry, confident team.
