Behind the late efforts of Taylor Otte, Laura Barrow and Gina Metzler, the Nebraska softball team capped a series sweep with a 5-4, extra-inning victory against Northwestern on a chilly and misty Saturday at Bowlin Stadium.
Otte opened the eighth inning with a double to the wall in left-center field, Barrow moved Otte to third on a sacrifice bunt, and that set the stage for Metzler.
The pinch-hitting outfielder hit a chopper at Northwestern first baseman Alcy Bush, who fired to home to prevent the winning run from scoring. Otte was too fast, beating the tag and igniting a celebration.
