Edwards and four other true freshman made an impact for Nebraska in 1996. Edwards' season was cut short by a hamstring pull, but not until he had played in four games, which prevented him from being granted a medical redshirt. Edwards caught one 10-yard pass against Michigan State and had one three-yard punt return against Colorado State.
