People who awoke this morning hoping John Cook’s Wednesday afternoon retirement announcement was just a bad dream were sorely disappointed, but there was nothing disappointing about the memories this legendary coach and his amazing teams provided over the last quarter century.
His retirement was cemented today as he took to the podium in the Hawks Media Center for the final time as the Huskers volleyball coach. It didn’t require a therapist’s training to see how emotional the decision was as he led things off with the Neil Young lyric, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away,” then immediately choked up.
