Nebraska freshman thrower Axelina Johansson placed 12th in the women's shot put at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday night.
Johansson posted a throw of 57-9 (17.60m) to finish out the competition. On Friday she set a new personal best of 60-11 1/4 (18.57m) to become the only current collegiate student-athlete to reach the final 12. The NCAA outdoor bronze medalist, Johansson topped both the NCAA gold and silver medalists to advance to the final.
Johansson was named the Big Ten Women's Outdoor Freshman of the Year. She was a two-time All-American in her freshman season at Nebraska and collected two Big Ten medals in the shot put.
