The school and the former Cal assistant finalized the hiring Tuesday morning, one day after news first broke that he was likely the replacement for departed assistant Mike Dawson.

Tuioti, 42, had been with Cal the previous two seasons, coaching defensive line in 2018 and outside linebackers in 2017 under defensive-minded head coach Justin Wilcox. Prior to his stint in Berkeley, he spent 2016 at Michigan in a player personnel role in which he led head coach Jim Harbaugh's recruiting efforts. In 2014 and 2015, Tuioti served as an assistant defensive line/quality control coach with the Cleveland Browns.
