Nicole Evans hit a late grand slam to help the Illinois softball team stop No. 24 Nebraska 8-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in Urbana, Illinois.
The teams combined to strand 18 baserunners before the Illini were able to capitalize in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Evans cleared the bases with a home run to break a 3-3 tie, and teammate Annie Fleming later hit an RBI triple.
Nebraska finished 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position, while Illinois was 4-of-14 before the big hits from Evans and Fleming.
The Huskers tied it at 2-2 in the third inning on RBI singles from seniors Mattie Fowler and Dawna Tyson.
