At 9:08 p.m., Nebraska officials asked a lingering crowd to evacuate the stands and shelter in the concourses or other designated holding areas as severe weather moved into the area.
The original delay began at 7:15 p.m., just after kickoff, as the Nebraska offense trotted onto the field to begin the first drive of the Scott Frost era.
Thousands of fans stayed and waited out thunderstorms and periods of rain in the stands, but were asked to leave the bleachers and head for cover at 9:08 p.m. because of a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service that called for potential 70-mile-per-hour winds, large hail and heavy rain.
