VILLANOVA, Pa. — With Nebraska leading No. 11 Villanova 23-16 in front of a silent crowd of 6,500 at the Pavilion, the home team’s coach, Jay Wright, took a timeout.
Nebraska junior Andrew White huddled his team. He told them specifically to not give up a big run, because he knew Villanova’s capability of doing so.
“And surely enough,” White said, “at that very moment is when they went on that run.”
A big one, too.
Villanova turned up the pressure, swarmed Nebraska and scored 22 straight points in an 87-62 victory Tuesday night in the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games, a series between Big East Conference and Big Ten Conference teams.
