This evening, they decided to play some softball in the rain in Iowa City. A likely reason they did is the same reason Iowa would not be allowed to host a regional, although such a circumstance still appears far from being an issue.
Their diamond is all FieldTurf. Many college softball outfields are, including Nebraska’s, but very few cover the entire farm, since NCAA rules require a dirt infield to host in post-season play. Iowa therefore had to order enough turf the color of Dale Jarrett’s old UPS-sponsored vehicle (saying shit-brown seems mean) to cover the infield, batters boxes and warning tracks.
