After a first inning in which neither Northwestern’s Lauren Boyd nor Jordy Bahl allowed any serious threats, it was the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ turn to take their swings in the top of the second.
When the dust settled from that strategic bombing run, Olivia DiNardo stood on first after being plunked by a pitch, the Wildcats had yet to record an out and 8 Huskers runs had crossed the plate. With Bahl on the mound, the game was effectively over thanks to another huge Husker inning which saw them bat around yet again this season.
Both pitchers suffered from some uncharacteristic wildness but it was Boyd’s 3 passes which did the most damage as she allowed those, a double, a single and 2 runs before Bahl dealt the first big blow with another double, this one driving in 2, and ending Boyd’s afternoon with Nebraska up 4-0.
