One of the most controversial appeals in college softball the last couple of years is being able to review whether or not a runner left the base early as they are not allowed to do so until the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand.
Now fair is fair and it is something which should absolutely be monitored, but what is happening is this:
Coaches are allowed two challenges. Naturally, they only choose to use them if they are sure it will result in a call being overturned. Except - if they have challenges left in the late innings, that policy goes out the window as they do not want to finish the game with any left in their pocket.
